Guests can explore the nature trails and use the picturesque footpath leading to the village of Howey.

Village History

The village of Howey is situated in the Radnorshire parish of Disserth & Trecoed and takes it's name from the brook flowing through it. Caer-ddu (the black camp) is just to the north of the village and is the site of a pre-Roman hill top settlement. Howey once possessed a cornmill, a smithy, a shoemaker, tailor and combined grocer, butcher and baker. Cattle drovers from Tregaron crossed the Wye at Newbridge-on-Wye, folloed the road to Disserth and Howey and on to Hundred House and London. St. Cewydd's Church at Disserth is largely Thirteenth Century, it has a well-defined circular churchyard. Disserth Wake is held annually on the first Sunday after St. Swithin's Day. The present school in Howey was opened in 1865 although an earlier school was held in part of Disserth Church and provided education for young men from the farms during the winter months. For many years the tradesmen of Howey served the small population of Llandrindod which had no shops of its own before 1868 when the town first began to be built. Even in the 1870's the postal address of Llandrindod was "near Howey".
